Bad Thing Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Hey, we started at the end
Another second chance
To fuck it up again
I know I'm good alone
But you feel just like home
My favourite kind of wrong
Familiar as a song, oh

[Pre-Chorus]
When I'm 'bout to say bye-bye
I forget what I cried about last time
Only thing I'm seein' clearly is I'm love blind
I would trade common sense for a good time
Oh, it'll never be easy
How the fuck you got me out here feelin' needy?
If you gave it all, you still wouldn't complete me
I'ma keep on coming back until you leave me

[Chorus]
Damn, I've done a bad thing (Bad thing)
I know you're damaged goods
Is it a bad thing (Bad thing)
That I wanna treat you good?
You're the worst of my habits
And I wouldn't fix it if I could
When I've done a bad thing
I know you're damaged goods
[Verse 2]
I, I know what I deserve
But you just say the words
And I won't put me first
Especially at night
A simple text ignites
A flame back to my life
But that don't make it right

[Pre-Chorus]
'Cause when I'm 'bout to say bye-bye
I forget what I cried about last time
Only thing I'm seein' clearly is I'm love blind
I would trade common sense for a good time
Oh, it'll never be easy
How the fuck you got me out here feelin' needy?
If you gave it all, you still wouldn't complete me
I'ma keep on coming back until you leave me

[Chorus]
Damn, I've done a bad thing (Bad thing)
I know you're damaged goods (Goods)
Is it a bad thing (Bad thing)
That I wanna treat you good?
You're the worst of my habits
And I wouldn't fix it if I could
Damn, I've done a bad thing
I know you're damaged goods
[Bridge]
I won't repeat you
Oh, I'll delete you
I promise I'll be better off, I swear
And this is the good part
First I'll take back my heart
Then act like I don't care

[Chorus]
And I do a bad thing
Knowing you're damaged goods
Is it a bad thing
That I wanna treat you good?
You're the worst of my habits
And I wouldn't fix it if I could
Damn, I've done a bad thing
And I know I'm damaged goods

About

Genius Annotation

“Bad Thing” serves as Jesy Nelson’s second solo release after her departure from Little Mix back in December of 2020, and her comeback to music after a year and a half hiatus from her last single, “Boyz.” It also marks her first release as an independent artists following her split from Polydor in July 2022.

Although it doesn’t depart much from her last release with its lyrical content, as both touch on Jesy’s tendency of falling for the wrong guys and following her heart instead of her mind, it contrasts from “Boyz” through its rich instrumentation and production. “Bad Thing” finds influence in vintage Hollywood and indie pop sounds, reminiscent of artists like Billie Eilish and Lana Del Rey.

The music video is inspired by her parents relationship. The couple split when she was five years old, resulting in Jesy being estranged from her father. She opened up about it in an interview with The Mirror while promoting her last release:

Growing up my dad wasn’t around. He wasn’t the best, he was in and out of prison, so I haven’t had many good men role models in my life.

What did Jesy Nelson say about "Bad Thing"?
Genius Answer

It’s about being in an unhealthy relationship. I just feel like so many women in my life have been through horrific experiences like this and I just really wanted to raise awareness about it. I think it’s such an important topic that hardly anyone ever speaks about. There’s so many people that go through it and they’re too scared to talk about it. That’s why it was so important for us to keep it real because most of the time it takes a long time for people to leave these situations.
