oh, mexico Lyrics

[Verse 1]
No, I don't miss you yet
You're just a feeling I'd rather forget
So I pierce my skin and I buzz my hair
I'm going to Mexico
No, I don't feel the same
The lack of chemicals in my brain
Won't keep me warm
, so I pause and pray
I don't wanna feel the cold
So I'm going to Mexico

[Chorus]
Oh, Mexico
Sounds so sweet, but I'm going there alone
I tried to be myself, but still, I've got some room to grow
I'm going to Mexico

[Verse 2]
And I won't miss you then
The weight of every word on my chest
So I curse my name and my fragile frame
Anywhere could feel like home (Anywhere)
But I'm going to Mexico

[Chorus]
Oh, Mexico
Sounds so sweet, but I'm going there alone
I tried to be myself, but still, I've got some room to grow
I'm going to Mexico
[Outro]
(Mexico, Mexico)
I'm going to Mexico

Genius Answer

It’s me on my guitar, and a capo on the 10th fret, playing really, really high, and I pitched it way down on my computer. I wrote the song chronologically, and when I got to the chorus, I kept finding myself singing James Taylor’s “Mexico.” I was like, “Why don’t I just make this a flip of ‘Mexico’?” It still doesn’t even feel like a flip to me, because it is so much its own song. It felt like a really appropriate ending to the album, because it is this idea of falling into old habits and old patterns, and realizing that no matter how much you’ve experienced, we always still have things to learn. That’s a hard thing to accept.
