Cherry Bomb Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Can't stay at home, can't stay at school
Old folks say, "Ya poor little fool"
Down the street I'm the girl next door
I'm the fox you've been waiting for

[Chorus]
Hello Daddy, hello Mom
I'm your ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch, cherry bomb
Hello world, I'm your wild girl
I'm your ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch, cherry bomb

[Verse 2]
Stone age love and strange sounds too
Come on, baby let, me get to you
Bad nights causin' teenage blues
Get out now 'cause you've got nothing to lose

[Chorus]
Hello Daddy, hello Mom
I'm your ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch, cherry bomb
Hello world, I'm your wild girl
I'm your ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch, cherry bomb

[Instrumental Break]
[Verse 3]
Hey street boy, what's on style?
Your dead end dreams don't make you smile
I'll give ya something to live for
Have ya, grab ya 'til you're sore

[Chorus]
Hello Daddy, hello Mom
I'm your ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch, cherry bomb
Hello world, I'm your wild girl
I'm your ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch, cherry bomb

[Outro]
Cherry bomb, cherry bomb
Cherry bomb, cherry bomb
Cherry bomb, cherry bomb

Genius Annotation

This is a remake of a version done by Joan Jett’s former band, The Runaways (that also featured 80’s rocker Lita Ford on guitar). The original lead singer, Cherie Curry, out of embarrassment, initially refused to sing the lyrics, “have ya, grab ya, ‘til you’re sore”, but the male co-writer of the song and the group’s manager, Kim Fowler, convinced her that the all-girl group needed to show young male fans that the girls were just as gritty as any of the male punk bands out there. This is documented in the movie about them called, The Runaways.
