Sleepin On Me Lyrics

This shit is so lame
It's a girl on Twitter
And she do it for the fame
Man I think I gotta change the game
This city’s so insane
What I see in my eyes affects my brain
I'm off the chain
In my mind I been doin my thang
I see the fear in they eyes
Man why are they suprised
These rappers they be telling lies
I gotta be a big boy now
It's on to suits and ties
Cause where I’m from they doin drive bys
At my house I hear helicopter flys
But I'm in school to take away the lows
Because I'm feelin all the highs
I tell her that I love her
But the girl she only cries
I guess she tired of hearing lies
Maybe she don't know that I'm the only nigga in her life that really tries
When she was five her daddy touched her and made the girl tell her mama lies
Now it's up to the next man to hold her when she cries
I just be praying for the best
I got a lot of thoughts on my chest
But if you think they don't love you
Then just know I think you the best
I work hard never rest
Ima get signed
Man this shit is just a test
I am success
The city's very best
Went to college took some tests
Now I speak the gospel
Had to put this shit to rest
These niggas say they rappin
But to me these niggas pests
I see Isaiah I see me
I always kept it G
Yeah I always kept it G
And if you fuckin slept on me
Then just keep on fuckin sleepin on me
I get tired of these niggas fuckin speaking on me
I’m in the 423
But I’m not in the 423
Respect me when you speak on me

Genius Annotation

Sleepin On Me is directly inspired by 2Pac’s Brenda’s Got a Baby and Isaiah Rashad’s Cilvia Demo. At the beginning of the song I talk about how the childhood trauma I experienced in Chattanooga plays a major part on the psychology of me as a person. I paint this picture by describing drive by shootings and helicopters that fly over our neighborhood from time to time. I go on to use the story of a girl molested by her father to let all women especially black women know that I love them no matter what it is they go through because as men we will never fully understand. I end the song leaving the city with a message saying that they should wake up because there’s a new legend from Chattanooga and it’s Joel Dossett. Part of this song focuses on the struggles I have connecting with the media in Chattanooga. Most of it is my fault because I haven’t been properly promoting myself but part of me also feels like they should already know. I haven’t been home because I’ve been in school so most people that have come across me aren’t even aware that I make music.
