Don’t Walk Away Lyrics

[Intro: John Legend]
Woah, oh woah
Woah, woah, woah, woah, woah
Woah, woah, woah

[Refrain: John Legend]
Come back, come back
We don't wanna go out like that
Come back

[Verse 1: John Legend]
We can't go out like this
It's just the two of us
We should be making up
We could be making love
Didn't used to talk like this
Now you say you're giving up
Took too much to build this house
I don't wanna sit and watch it burn down
I ain't leaving, I ain't leaving, I ain't leaving, I ain't giving you space
I will not be replaced
I don't wanna save face
Don't leave me open, leave me open, leave me open, leave me open like that
Whatever love we had
We need to get it back
[Chorus: John Legend]
Can we just wait?
And don't walk away
Don't walk away
Don't walk away
Can we just wait?
And don't walk away
Don't walk away
There's so much more I wanna say

[Refrain: John Legend]
Come back, come back
We don't wanna go out like that
Come back, come back
We don't wanna go out like that

[Verse 2: John Legend]
When we go to war like this
Nobody's winning it
Nobody's gotta leave
We're not the enemy
You know we're better than this
It's no ordinary love
And if we gonna fight
Then we need to fight for us
[Chorus: John Legend]
Can we just wait?
And don't walk away
Don't walk away
Don't walk away
Can we just wait?
And don't walk away
Don't walk away
There's so much more I wanna say

[Verse 3: Koffee]
Take, take, take time
Fragile is my love (Baby take time, yeah)
I ain't never givin' up (Yeah)
Give you my life, I would (Ooh yeah, yeah)
I'll stand by you, bad times and good (Ooh yeah, yeah)
I can't really cope like this (Ooh yeah, yeah)
When you say you don't know me (Ooh yeah, yeah)
Oh, why can't we slow things down? (Ooh yeah, yeah)
Won't you put your love on me? (Won't you put your love on me? Yeah, yeah)
When we touch road, give me one phone call
Baby, don't go (Go, go, go)
You are my love, so me give you my all
I don't mind holding you, so you don't fall
(I don't mind holding you, so you don't fall)
(So you don't fall)
[Chorus: John Legend]
Can we just wait?
And don't walk away
Don't walk away
Don't walk away
Can we just wait?
And don't walk away
Don't walk away
There's so much more I wanna say

[Refrain: John Legend]
Come back, come back
We don't wanna go out like that (We don't wanna go)
Come back, come back
We don't wanna go out like that

[Outro; John Legend]
Yeah, baby
Come on over
Yeah
Ooh, baby
We don't wanna go out
No, no, nah, nah, no

Genius Answer

I wrote this with Di Genius, a Jamaican producer whose father is Freddie McGregor, a legendary Jamaican musician. So we were firmly in that place. I was thinking it’d be cool to bring a Jamaican or African artist in to add to that Afro-Caribbean flavor, and I started doing my research, listening to young dancehall and reggae artists. I decided that Koffee would be great on this and wound up meeting her at the Grammys, and she was into it. I sent her the song not long after that, and she graced us with her presence.
