You’re So Cool Lyrics
With affirmations as your wall art
You were driven, eyes on the prize
A yoga routine, home exercise
Now like the faded star
In Sunset Boulevard
I play the devoted butler
Morning coffees by the bed
While all hard fought endeavours
Bring in diminished returns
You're so cool, it's true
You're my kind of girl
Keep you 'til the end
Find solace in the privilege to pursue
Most people are crushed into servitude
About
The entire thing seems to be deeply rooted in economics and the prevailing economic status quo and its effects on the lives of individuals. Namely its role in shaping individualism and the roles it confers unto individualism to prop up itself up (the economic system). Whereby the attributes of individualism are molded and shaped and you, as an individual, are tasked to choose from the set of options laid out before you. In effect, privilege (handed out by the rich and powerful) masquerading as Liberalism. Pointed out in “Find solace in the privilege to pursue”.
It is also in effect a sharp rebuke of Postmodernism and its failure to confront the inherent moral failings of Neoliberalism and global Capitalism. In effect, rendering culture generic and captive to a cycle that aims to glorify the past while being myopic to the coming bleak future.
All made possible through the erosion of group consciousness by the promotion of individualism in culture through consumption.
