What Keeps Me From It Lyrics

[Verse 1]
I shouldn't be in your livin' room
And you shouldn't be in my arms
It's unlikely there is a version of this
That's not gonna tear me apart
Your world still feels so familiar
Though some of the furniture's new
I still know my way around everything
And I know my way around you

[Chorus]
Maybe you're not love anymore
Maybe you remind me of it
Maybe we're not love anymore
Maybe you're what keeps me from it
What keeps me from it

[Verse 2]
I don't know how not to hold on to you
And I don't trust myself not to stay
And love you occasional Saturdays
Over someone who would meet me halfway

[Chorus]
Maybe you're not love anymore
Maybe you remind me of it
Maybe we're not love anymore
Maybe you're what keeps me from it
What keeps me from it

What did JP Saxe say about "What Keeps Me From It"?
Genius Answer

There are two moments on this album where it was important to really strip it back to the origins of me falling in love with music and songwriting. So there’s one moment where it’s just me and guitar recorded live—that’s “I Shouldn’t Be Here”. And there’s one that’s live with just me and piano, and that’s “What Keeps Me From It”. I think this would have been 17-year-old me’s favourite song. When I was 17, I was listening more to Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett and Oscar Peterson than I was to pop music. So this is definitely the song where I let that part of me out the most. The post-chorus melody of this song is actually from a Count Basie/Tadd Dameron record from around 80 years ago called ‘Good Bait’.
