Brothers (Ant Clemons Demo) Lyrics

[Verse 1: Kanye West]
What's it take to call your brother
Just to say you miss him and you wish you could spend time
What's so serious that you can't just pick up the phone
Let him know you love him
And that he's been on your mind
Tell him that you need your brother
Ask him how he's doing
And say you been doing fine
If it comes a point where you just don't know what to say
While you still have him on the line
Just say

[Chorus: Kanye West & Ant Clemons]
We'll be, brothers forever
What happens to one of us, happens to us together
And we'll be, brothers forever
We'll be, brothers forever
We'll be, brothers forever
We'll be, brothers forever

[Verse 2: Ant Clemons]
All my brothers, keep them
Made a promise to my mama
With my right hand on the Bible
I won't lie right to your honor
Blood don't make us any closer
We'll get on before it's over
'Member freestylin' on them sofas
Now we sin in California, uh
I'm my brother's keeper
I'm a promise keeper
I won't let you slip let you slip
Let no one ever tell my brother to keep away
You calling, I'll show up, hit
My phone and I'll answer
I won't let you slip let you slip
Long as I'm alive, I'm my brother's keeper
[Chorus: Kanye West & Ant Clemons]
We'll be, brothers forever
What happens to one of us, happens to us together
And we'll be, brothers forever
We'll be, brothers forever
We'll be, brothers forever
We'll be, brothers forever

Genius Annotation

An original demo to the beat that would later become Violent Crimes off of ye, Ye’s eighth studio album. The verses feature Ye lamenting the distance that has formed between him and some of his close friends, most likely JAY-Z, given that the title calls back to Graduation’s closer Big Brother. Ant Clemons also adds vocals and a verse on the back end. This song was later split into Violent Crimes and the unreleased Brothers featuring Charlie Wilson, where Ye expands on the topics he touches on here.
