“When I See It” was a surprise release on October 19th, 2015 on Soundcloud. Although Kanye has had an account for several years (according to Complex), this was the first time he ever uploaded any music on the service. The song was uploaded privately 14 days before being made public. At the same time, Kanye also released a new mix of his song “Say You Will (Ft. Caroline Shaw),” originally from 2008’s 808s and Heartbreak.

The verse was originally hidden as the bridge on The Weeknd’s “Tell Your Friends.” The vocals are heavily distorted by a vocoder but the length of each rendition is an identical 65 seconds. The similarities in melody also become obvious once you listen to the songs side by side. This is why the lyrics are over the “Tell Your Friends” beat, which Kanye produced.
