“Lexii’s Outro” is the fifteenth and final track from Kehlani’s sophomore album, It Was Good Until It Wasn’t.
The song features Lexii Alijai, a Minnesota-based rapper that passed away on New Year’s Day 2020. Lexii was extremely close friends with Kehlani and featured on Kehlani’s song, “Jealous,” in her 2015 mixtape You Should Be Here.
On the album release livestream on youtube, Kehlani said that this was the hardest track on the album to make.
And the hardest song to make was Lexis outro because it was just emotionally hard and we just wanted to make sure that we honored her and her family in the right way so we were just making sure that her family was involved every step of the way of getting the verse […] and we got different options and I just wanted something that left her on a high note of being very triumphant over person that she is and not on a sad note that that’s just symbolic of her passing, I wanted to be more symbolic of her entire journey as a young woman not just associated with her passing and that was hard to do.
