Heaven Lyrics

[Verse 1]
My ride or die
Let's burn out tonight
Even if we don't survive
We were right about being wrong
Don't look back to the wreck
Stay with me, turn your head
This is it, all that's left
Just some times that we had, oh

[Chorus]
Heaven, make me an offer
Lord, there's nothing for me left out here

Heaven, if you come over
Oh, I know how to make us disappear

[Post-Chorus]
Ooh, ooh

[Verse 2]
And now the way you say
My name sounds like a song
That you've been singing all along
Don't forget it once I'm gone

[Chorus]
Oh, Heaven (Heaven), make me an offer
Lord, there's nothing for me left out here (Oh)
Heaven, if you come over
Oh, I know how to make us disappear
[Chorus]
Heaven (Hey), make me an offer (Oh)
Lord, there's nothing for me left out here (Yeah)
Heaven, if you come over (Oh-oh-oh-oh, yeah)
Oh, I know how to make us disappear

[Outro]
Heaven, make me an offer
Lord, there's nothing for me left out here

Genius Annotation

Heaven is almost Khalid’s last song on the album. It ties perfectly into the previous song “Alive” in which he talks about dying in order to be alive. In this song, Khalid talks about losing someone close to him, perhaps a significant other or best friend. Although it’s never explicitly stated whether or not this individual is physically taken from the world or is just no longer friends with Khalid. Regardless, Khalid is crushed, and he shows it in this song. He speaks in a helpless kind of tone, saying that this is it. He says that he’s ready for heaven to take him away, that there’s nothing left for him. This is probably his most dramatic difference of Free Spirit Khalid from American Teen Khalid

Genius Answer

Khalid discussed being given the song by Father John Misty in an interview with Zane Lowe on Beats 1. Khalid called Misty offering him the song a “Cinderella moment.”

“I would never pass on singing a Father John Misty song and putting that on my album ever. If Father John Misty is like, ‘Yo, here, look here’s this song, you want to sing it?’ I’m like, ‘Hell yeah I want to sing that.’ One, he inspires me so much, so I feel like his voice, or my voice at least, is not too far off from his, because that’s a voice that I grew up with, and I sat with, and I lived with. I love that I got to take a song that he wrote and interpret it in the way that it makes me feel. I love that when I listen to it, I hear him on it. For me, that’s a present, that’s a gift. How many people do you know out there who can say that they’ve sang a song that Father John Misty has wrote? The fact that he looks to me and he’s like, “You’re going to do this song justice, and you’re going to sing this song the way that it should be sang.” Amazing.
