Fairytale Lyrics
Inconsistent love masked in a fairytale
You play along and you wear it well
You'll fall apart when the timings right
Pacing the floor til' the morning light
[Verse 2]
There will be a time out there on the line
When you know you've had enough
Plant a little seed down there on your knees
When you know you've got the stuff
[Verse 3]
Everybody wants a little piece of my time
Keep it all the rage and they'll stand in line
Heard your little cause playing on the radio
It's getting good, real good at getting old
[Verse 4]
Always just away
Everybody says
You could be here when you're home
You never say goodbye
Or look me in the eye
I'll love you 'til the day is gone
I can see my feet
Planted on the street
Rumbling like a waterfall
At my own device
I can scale the ice
Waiting for the warm to come
[Verse 6]
And the words always get in the way
It cuts you down just the same
I can't wait to see what you find
And the sun will find its place to shine

Jared Followill:
That was one that came really easily. Musically, we did a few things that we’ve never done before. We usually have references of other songs that we definitely try not to take literally from. But it was just a more ethereal, less structured song—like “Reservations” by Wilco.
Caleb Followill:
When you put on the radio, every now and then, there’s a song that makes you go, ‘Fuck, man. This really fits the moment.’ I have these moments a lot. A lot of times it’s Tom Petty or The Velvet Underground or something like that. But “Fairytale” is one of the songs that obviously no record label would choose as a single. But I guarantee you: If you’re driving home after a stressful day and you hear that song, you’d just be like, ‘Fuck yeah. This song makes me feel something.’
