Joe Lyrics

[Verse 1]
I got a job and my name's Joe
Spend my days at the Texaco
Never show up late
Never show up drunk
'Cause when I get half-lit, I'm a loaded gun
Made a couple wrong turns
Did county time
I do everything I can to stay between the lines

[Chorus]
I got a couple good buddies that all stop in
Say, "It's good to see ya brother, man, how ya been?"
I can't complain, I'm doin' alright
Sleepin' pretty good, stayin' dry
I thank the Lord every morning with a sweet amen
For how far I come, from where I been
So here's to good days, better tomorrows
And a light at the end of the bottle

[Verse 2]
Some battlеs are fought on foreign shores
Somе are fought behind closed doors
Some fall from grace
Some lose their wings
Some find the peace salvation brings
[Chorus]
I got a couple good buddies that all stop in
Say, "It's good to see ya brother, man, how ya been?"
I can't complain, I'm doin' alright
Sleepin' pretty good, stayin' dry
I thank the Lord every morning with a sweet amen
For how far I come, from where I been
So here's to good days, better tomorrows
And a light at the end of the bottle

[Refrain]
Here's to good days
Here's to living
And here's to old sins
Bein' forgiven

[Chorus]
And a buncha good buddies that all drop in
Say, "It's good to see ya brother, man, how ya been?"
I can’t complain, I’m doing alright
Sleepin' pretty good, stayin' dry
I thank the Lord every morning with a sweet amen
For how far I come, from where I've been
So here's to good days and better tomorrows
And a light at the end of the bottle
[Outro]
At the end of the bottle

Image description

This song, written by Erik Dylan, James Slater, and Combs is for country fans who may be struggling with alcohol addiction or are recovering alcoholics. In an Instagram post from Feb 24th, 2023, Combs writes about how he has friends and family who have struggled with addiction, and how important it was for him to write a song for them. In the post, he writes “This song ("Joe”) is really important to me for that reason. Our genre has so many songs about drinking and partying, hell, I’m probably one of the worst culprits of it". Further down the post, he continues about how he’s “always wanted a song for those people to have for themselves. To have a song they can sing at the top of their lungs and feel like they’re not forgotten.”

Combs sings from the perspective of an “Average Joe” who goes about their life. “Joe” has a positive outlook of life since becoming sober, and is doing better every day. As Combs intended, the lyrics and song have an uplifting message, that a sober lifestyle is ok, and there is merit in “staying dry”

What did Luke Combs say about "Joe"?
Genius Answer

I was at the Opry, and it was during COVID when I was playing the Opry when nobody was there. It was empty. It was just me and Craig Morgan. And I sat down and my creative guy, Zach, was there, and they were like, ‘What’s the name of this song or whatever?’ And he told him it was ‘The Bottle.’ And then when I played it, I said it was called ‘Joe’ because I just wanted it to jump off the page. And that was just the name that was in the song when Erik Dylan sent it to me. It was like, ‘I got a job. My name’s Joe.’ That was the first line of the song. And so I just thought it would make people see the title and go, ‘Well, guys, what is that song about?’ I wanted people to listen to it and have to listen to it, because I think it does have a powerful message.

During his Live Performance at the Grand Ole Opry, Luke said this about the song:

A while ago, my buddy Erik Dylan played me a song that he had started with a guy named James Slater. I thought it was real awesome, so we finished it the other day. I guess the title of this song would be called “Joe.” Let me know what you think.
