Slip Away Lyrics
Fallin', fallin', fallin' in unfamiliar space
'Cause I was drenched in you before I even knew your name
Fading, fading, fading with the breath you take
See your southern heart hidin' behind a city face
[Chorus]
Drownin' out the fires as I'm lying here awake
I can feel you slip away like I knew you would
Don't you leave me in this silence when you've seen all my mistakes
Now I'm lookin' for escapes like I knew I would
[Verse 2]
Stalling, stalling, stalling till I take the blame, mm
Yeah, I lied to you like a promisе on New Year's Day
You saw me, saw mе, saw me, I got nowhere to hide
Yeah, the worst of me is racin' all around your mind
[Chorus]
Drownin' out the fires as I'm lying here awake
I can feel you slip away like I knew you would
Don't you leave me in this silence when you've seen all my mistakes
Now I'm lookin' for escapes like I knew I would
[Bridge]
Hmm, slip away, slip away, slip away
I'll slip away, slip away, slip away
Drownin' out the fires as I'm lying here awake
I can feel you slip away like I knew you would
Don't you leave me in this silence when you've seen all my mistakes
Now I'm lookin' for escapes like I knew I would
[Outro]
I can feel you slip away like I knew you would

Hemmings told Apple Music:
“Slip Away” is about that feeling right before bed where every bad decision and bad thing you have ever done swirls around your mind. The constant ache of expecting loved ones to be out the door as soon as they see who you actually are. It was written in a cabin in the middle of the woods, and it certainly feels like that to me when I listen to it. Sometimes in my moments of extreme happiness, I feel like I am undeserving of them, almost like an impostor.
Later, on an Instagram Livestream, he also said:
There’s a song called “Slip Away” on the album, that almost didn’t make it to the album, that I wrote with Sammy in a cabin in the middle of the woods.
