Canada Lyrics

[Verse 1: Lauv]
Waking up in your bed
It's almost like I've been here forever
I'm obsessed with your brain
And I'd unfold it if you let me

[Chorus: Lauv]
What if we move to Canada
And buy some things we don't need?
Bring your mother's dog
Your paintbrush and some candy
And when they talk about those
People who up and leave
That could be us
That could be you and me

[Verse 2: Alessia Cara]
How you talk with your hands
And how you sigh like a movie
And we got luck so bad we have to laugh
I guess we're lucky that we don't need much outside of us, do we?

[Chorus: Lauv & Alessia Cara]
What if we move to Canada
And buy some things we don't need?
Bring your mother's dog
Your paintbrush and some candy
And when they talk about those
People who up and leave
That could be us
That could be you and me
[Bridge: Lauv & Alessia Cara]
Ah, that could be you and me
Ah, that could be you and me
Ah, that could be you and me
Ah

[Chorus: Lauv & Alessia Cara, Alessia Cara & Lauv]
So, why don't we move to Canada
And buy some things we don't need?
Bring your mother's dog
Your
paintbrush and some candy
And when they talk about those
People who up and leave
That could be us
That could be you and me
Move to Canada
And buy some things we don't need
Bring your mother's dog
Your paintbrush and some candy
And when they talk about those
People who up and leave
That could be us
That could be you and me

[Outro: Lauv]
That could be you and me

What did Lauv say about "Canada"?
Genius Answer

I was dating this girl and she sent me a screenshot of trending topics on Twitter, and the top topic that day was ‘Studies show if you’re looking for the best quality of life, you should move to Canada.’ I wrote the song with Phoebe Bridgers—she’s amazing—and then I sent it to Alessia, I thought she would do something amazing for that song. I’ve been in LA for three and a half years now, I was in New York for four years before that, in school, and I feel like at this point, it would be so hard for me to not live in some type of city, just because I need stuff always happening. Don’t get me wrong, I love beautiful nature and stuff, but I’d just go crazy.

How did the song come about?
Genius Answer

The funny thing about the song […] is that actually, I started it based on a Twitter screenshot I saw, it was like a Trending Topic that said “Study show if you’re looking for the best quality of life, you should move to Canada” and so I was like “let’s make a song about moving to Canada” and then I send the idea to Alessia and she loved it, and we Facetime and then she absolutely killed her part, so it’s awesome to have her part of it.
