What does this have to do with the shoes?
Answer the question!
Let me rephrase the question... do yo momma know you gay?

Order, order! Ordеr in the court!
Lil Nas X, I sentencе you to five years in Montero State Prison!

[Verse/Snippet: Lil Nas X]
Baby back, ayy, couple racks, ayy
Couple Grammys on him, couple plaques, ayy
That's a fact, ayy, throw it back, ayy

Genius Annotation

INDUSTRY BABY (Prelude) is a brief comedy skit posted by rapper Lil Nas X on his YouTube channel to anticipate the release of his single, INDUSTRY BABY, released 4 days after the skit was posted.

With a total runtime of seventy-three seconds (despite the video itself being over two minutes long), the skit takes place in a courthouse, where a hypothetical lawsuit between Lil Nas X and the company Nike is happening, most likely based off the real lawsuit that the company filed against the rapper.
Unfortunately, Lil Nas X’s lawyer is pretty incompetent, at a point he doesn’t even remember his own client’s name, which he botches multiple times.

During his speech, the plaintiff brings up how “this is about much more than shoes”, and proceeds to bring up Lil Nas' sexuality, asking him if he’s gay (to which he responds with “What does this have to do with the shoes?”).

After being pressured to answer positively to the question, by both the plaintiff and the judge, Lil Nas gets sentenced by the judge to 5 years in the fictional “Montero State Prison”, which ends the skit and sets the tone for the song (partially played via a snippet during the end credits) and particularly the music video, which is set, indeed, inside a prison.

All of the speaking roles in the skit, except for the judge’s daughter, are portrayed by Lil Nas X himself. (He also sarcastically credits himself, during the end credits, as all the roles, in a  progressively more humorous manner, ending with a “Damn, how many roles does this n—a got?”)
