Pictureboard Lyrics

[Verse 1: Chester Bennington]
I will be myself
Until it's time
For me to fly

[Chorus: Chester Bennington]
And I will walk away
From this message on my board
I will walk away, yeah

[Verse 2: Chester Bennington]
You must be yourself
Until it's time
For us to fly

[Chorus: Chester Bennington]
And I will walk away
From this message on my board
I will walk away, yeah

[Bridge: Mike Shinoda & Chester Bennington]
The night in the corner at the back of the hall
Where we sit all alone and listen to the rainfall
The night in the corner at the back of the hall
Where we sit all alone and listen to the rainfall
The night in the corner at the back of the hall
Where we sit all alone and listen to the rainfall
The night in the corner at the back of the hall
Where we sit all alone and listen to the rainfall
Calling from all sides, they surround all around
You can't see a thing, but you can hear the sounds (I will walk away)
Falling from the sky, upside-down
To the beat of your heart as your whole head pounds (I will walk away)
Calling from all sides, they surround all around
You can't see a thing, but you can hear the sounds (I will walk away)
Falling from the sky, upside-down
To the beat of your heart as your whole head pounds
[Interlude: Chester Bennington]
I will be myself, yeah

[Chorus: Chester Bennington]
And I will walk away
From this message on my board
I will walk away, yeah

[Outro: Mike Shinoda]
The night in the corner at the back of the hall
Where we sit all alone and listen to the rainfall
The night in the corner at the back of the hall
Where we sit all alone and listen to the rainfall
The night in the corner at the back of the hall
Where we sit all alone and listen to the rainfall
The night in the corner at the back of the hall
Is where we sit all alone and listen to the rainfall
The night in the corner at the back of the hall
Where we sit all alone and listen to the rainfall
The night in the corner at the back of the hall
Is where we sit all alone and listen to the rainfall
The night in the corner at the back of the hall
Where we sit all alone and listen to the rainfall
The night in the corner at the back of the hall
Is where we sit all alone and listen to the rainfall

Genius Annotation

Considered a “holy grail” for Linkin Park fans, “Pictureboard” is a song by Linkin Park that created a myth surrounding it due to mentions of it from Mike Shinoda during fan interactions, but with little evidence of the song surfacing online.

However, during Linkin Park’s Hybrid Theory’s 20th Anniversary teaser on their website, it was revealed that a song they previously played live (which gained a fan title “In/Be Yourself”) was “Pictureboard” all along.

For years, the song couldn’t be released due to a sample in the song not being cleared, that one being a drum loop from “I’m Gonna Love You Just A Little More Baby” by Barry White.

What did Linkin Park say about "Pictureboard"?
Genius Answer

First mentioned in a fan club chat with ten members in 2005, Shinoda recalled early songs:

A Place For My Head used to be called Esaul and there was a song called Pictureboard which we actually played on stage one time probably 5 years ago with Linkin Park. We played it after we changed our name. I think that was the only time we played a Xero song that wasn’t on Hybrid Theory after we changed our name.

Ten years later, in a podcast with fansite LPAssociation, Mike reiterated that the song couldn’t officially release at the time due to samples in the song, and stated:

It’s not worth it, man. You guys think it’s like this imaginary holy grail of a song. It’s really not that great… It did not [worked into another song]. It got played back then and then there’s a sample in it so we didn’t play it anymore so we didn’t want to deal with it anymore. So that’s the story on that. I don’t know if it was played as an intro to another song. Not a record, I’ll tell you that much.

In an interview with Kerrang! Magazine in celebration of Hybrid Theory’s 20th anniversary, Brad Delson discusses hearing Chester’s vocals for the first time, why the song hits so hard, and more.
