“Gloves Up” is the eighth track off of Little Mix’s sixth album Confetti and has similar themes to their fifth album, LM5. It references feminism and breaking down barriers and is the only song on Confetti to do so, a sharp turn from the prevalent topic of female empowerment on LM5.
There is an extended boxing metaphor that is apparent on the song that imply they are willing to fight for their rights rather than stand by and do nothing.
The subject matter of feminism and girl power appears throughout Little Mix’s discography, from their debut single “Wings” to many songs in their catalogue, including “Salute”, “Little Me”, “Power”, and “Joan of Arc”.

This was done with [songwriter] Maegan Cottone, who we wrote ‘Salute’ with, as well as other songs. We absolutely love Meg. I feel like she just gets us so well. It’s a very anthemic song, and the chorus is quite Ciara-ish. We just had fun with it.
‘Gloves Up’ takes me back a little bit within Little Mix, but I don’t mind that. I feel like this one will be a fan favorite. We had it in mind when we wrote this song that it would maybe be a tour opener.
