I think, for me, the thing that makes me so emotional when I hear this song is the space in it. It’s not like a flowing, typical ballad. There’s so much space and the piano just drops out—it just really gets me every time. And it’s like we’re singing it to each other. You can interpret it in so many different ways, but it is nice to think that we’re singing it to each other, like we’ve got each other’s backs.
“My Love Won’t Let You Down” was another last minute addition to the record. We had a session with Kamille, and we were like, “We feel like we still could do with a really good ballad on the album, we don’t really have one yet”. And Kamille was like, “Oh, I’ve got this song that I wrote you the day, no big deal”. And she played “My Love Won’t Let You Down”, and we were like, “Are you joking?”. I think it was written with friendship in mind, as opposed to a relationship, and I think that’s what makes the song so beautiful.
