Genius Annotation

I took Charlie Puth’s production class in the spring and the goal was to have two songs done by the end of it- this was the first one. Our first assignment was to build a track and write to it, which is uncharted territory for me. I always write with/to a guitar or piano. I had also never produced a song before…. in my life. I wanted to write a sad song, so I picked some chords and started humming a melody and lyrics I had written a few months prior. Suddenly I realized I was writing a song about being cheated on (I’ve never been cheated on, fun fact). However, I do think you can still feel cheated even if you were never technically dating. I was in a situation where my time and emotions felt cheated and it hurt like hell. Creating this song was very therapeutic, I wrote a lot of it as the feelings were happening in real time.
