Look at the stars, look how they shine for you
And everything you do
And everything you do
[Verse 1: Lizzo]
In Tulum, we pretended we're married
And that little tiny house was our home
It was so freein' to know that we made it
To know that I never ever will be alone
[Pre-Chorus: Lizzo]
All we had was time
And at the front of my mind
I was so close to leavin' the world behind with you, ooh-ooh
[Chorus: Lizzo & Chris Martin]
And I just know it
That in this life
My love is you
(And everything you do)
[Verse 2: Lizzo]
Goin' to sleep, holdin' hands at the sunrise
Wakin' up, holdin' hands in the rain
I feel so goofy, I don't really do this
But with you is healin' how I feel pain
It made me sad, I cried
Singin' Coldplay in the night
Dancin' to no music just feels right with you, ooh-ooh
[Chorus: Lizzo & Chris Martin]
And I just know it (I just know it)
That in this life (Ah)
My love is you
(And everything you do)
And I just know it (I just know it)
That in this life (Ah)
My love is you
(And everything you do)
[Verse 3: Lizzo]
My defense mechanism kicks in
Makes me run, run away from the real
It's easy to cut you down while I close me up
Instead of tellin' you how I feel
And we waited so long, but the sex is so good
Five years in the makin', didn't know if we would
Do you say this shit to other people?
I don't think that I could (I don't think that I could, no)
I don't think that I could (I don't think that I could, no)
I don't think that I could (I don't think I could)
I don't think that I could (I don't think I could)
I don't think that I could (Ooh, ooh)
And I just know it (I just know it)
That in this life (Ah)
My love is you (You, you, you, you, you, oh)
(And everything you do)
And I just know it (Ba-da-ba-ba, I just know it)
That in this life (Ba-da-ba-ba, ah)
My love is you (You, you, you, ooh-ooh)
(And everything you do)
About
As one of the most personal and vulnerable tracks she has done, “Coldplay” serves as the closing track to Lizzo’s Special. It contains a portion of “Yellow” by Coldplay, hence the name, and also samples “SUDDEN DEATH” by Quelle Chris & Chris Keys.
Lizzo opens her heart up and dedicates this song to her significant other, which she spends the whole album figuring out if she’s ready for it or not.

This song was literally created from a 45-minute freestyle to a piano loop. Ricky Reed had me sit in the booth and just talk, so I started romanticising about this trip I’d just taken to Tulum, about the experiences I’d had and how I was singing Coldplay and crying. A few weeks later, he was like, ‘Hey, you remember that freestyle you said in the booth? I wrote a song using your words.’ He played me a track that sampled Coldplay’s “Yellow” and I was like, ‘Whoa, this is crazy.’ Ricky was like, ‘We should call this “My Love Is You”.’ And I was like, ‘Nah, we should call it “Coldplay”.’ Because I’m going to tell you: Black people call people the name of their band. We call Adam Levine ‘Maroon 5’. ‘Oh, there goes Maroon 5.’ I thought there was something funny and real about calling a song that samples Coldplay “Coldplay”. Their songwriting is so simple and poetic. So I was like, ‘Let’s honour them. Let’s not run from it.’ On this album, I didn’t run from anything. If there’s a thesis to this album, it’s that. Embracing myself.
