Oh Woman Oh Man Lyrics

[Verse 1]
I can see that you're giving up
It should not mean that much to me

And I don't know where the rest go
But everybody's been telling me no

[Pre-Chorus]
But I'll always have a thing for you
I'd move the earth

But nothing made you want me better
There is nothing I can do
But steal the moon

But nothing made you want me better

[Chorus]
Oh, woman, oh, man
Choose a path or a child
Great mirrored plans
Oh, woman, oh, man
Take a devil by the hands through
Yellow sands

[Verse 2]
And I can see that you're giving up
So tell me it should not mean this much to me
And I don't know where the rest goes
Everybody's been telling me no
[Pre-Chorus 2]
But I'll always have a thing for you
I'd move the earth
But nothing made you want me better
There is nothing I can do
But steal the moon
And nothing made you want me better

[Chorus]
Oh, woman, oh, man
Choose a path or a child
Great mirrored plans
Oh, woman, oh, man
Take a devil by the hands through
Yellow sands

[Bridge]
Woman, woman, choose your man
A man, the one who understands
Ooh, do you really understand?
Ooh, do you really understand?
Do you really understand?

[Chorus]
Oh, woman, oh, man
Choose a path or a child
Great mirrored plans
Oh woman, oh man
Take a devil by the hands through
Yellow sands

[Outro]
Oh, woman, oh, man (Woman, woman, choose your man)
Oh, woman, oh, man(A man, the one who understands)
Ooh, do you really understand?
Ooh, do you really understand?

Genius Annotation

“Oh Woman Oh Man” is the promotional single released by British dream pop trio London Grammar as part of their second studio album, entitled “Truth Is A Beautiful Thing”.

In the song, Hannah Reid sings about being within the peak of a relationship and is starting to see the relationship fade away (whether it is through doubts, trust issues, etc.). Really, it shouldn’t mean that much to her, but her love for this person has grown so much in what seems like such a short space of time that she would give and do anything to make sure that what they have together doesn’t fall apart.

Overall, she believes that what they have is unique and shouldn’t be wasted.

What did London Grammar say about "Oh Woman Oh Man"?
Genius Answer

According to Songfacts, Reid explained in an interview with Billboard:

That song is about so many different things. A good friend of ours, who was touring at the time, actually had his marriage break down, and it was really horrible to watch someone else go through that in the way that he did. And so actually there is a lot of that in ‘Oh Woman Oh Man,’ and then there is a lot about being a woman and the choices that you have to make, and kind of about socialized gender norms. And then the imagery is quite similar to “Bones Of Ribbon” in terms of being quite apocalyptic and where-is-the-world-going? So there’s many layers.

Plus in an interview the band gave to a French newspaper, Hannah said that the song was about gender identity, masculine/feminine stereotypes, but also maternity and choosing to have children.

Is there a live performance of the song?
Genius Answer

Yes! On June 9, 2017, the band interpreted the song in live at Le Grand Studio RTL.
