Genius Annotation

Opening with an understated keyboard riff that is then joined by a timid guitar riff and a drum that is reminiscent of echoes in an empty room, Hey Now evokes an air of longing and loneliness. Having no distinct structure of style, the meaning of the lyrics can be difficult to pin down. But perhaps that’s the point? Hannah Reid says of the song’s abstract nature:

I mean, it is one of my favourites that we’ve ever written, I think, but it’s not a kind of song song, if you know what I mean? It’s more of a vibe than a song.

What did London Grammar say about "Hey Now"?
Genius Answer

In an interview with French website Charts in France, Dot Major declared:

This song was obvious. It came later than the others in the writing process, but it was the first that we finalized. As soon as the rehearsals were over, I looked at the instrumentation, very minimal and uncluttered, and voila. The final version is not much different from the first, and that’s why it is important to us: it was us, who found the sound of our music. Of all the tracks, this is the one that best reflects the album.
