Pain Remains I: Dancing Like Flames Lyrics

[Intro]
Captivate me
Become my escape
I can't look away
You were my everything

[Verse 1]
If the past is just dust
Then the future could be our dream
If all we have is now, this eternity
Ignite my satisfaction
Engulf me

[Chorus]
We're dancing like flames flickering in the night
We sway in time with the wind before melting away
You're far from my reach but not far out of sight
You know the way to my heart but you just play the strings again

[Post-Chorus]
Flicker like shadows
Dancing beyond the flame
Captivate, hypnotized
By the fire in her eyes
You took me by surprise
And then you disappeared
In the blink of an eye

[Verse 2]
Pull me into the pyre
Engulf me in flames
Captivate me
Eidolon, gravity
Magnetic, pull me toward my ecstasy

[Chorus]
We're dancing like flames flickering in the night
We sway in time with the wind before melting away
You're far from my reach but not far out of sight
You know the way to my heart but you just play the strings again

[Post-Chorus]
Flicker like shadows
Dancing beyond the flames
Enchanting, mesmerized
Take what is left of my life
A wrinkle in time
Where do you go?

[Guitar Solo: Adam De Micco]

[Bridge]
A wrinkle in time
Take what is left of my life
Before you go
Show me what it's like to finally know
The face behind the silhouette
In this world I made to be infinite
But within the expanse, I finally see
A world without you isn't meant for me

[Outro]
Where do you go when I close my eyes?
What do you see looking back at me?
Am I just a ghost just like you?
Caught between the seams of two intertwining melodies

Genius Annotation

In regards to the song’s meaning guitarist Adam De Micco posted on his Instagram:

“I write from a place of pain. It’s the driving
factor. It’s my fuel since I experience it a lot. It’s
always been the motivating factor, but pain is
an interesting thing though. Some hide it. Some
mask it with another emotion. Others embrace it
and let it wash over them. I think in this moment
unconsciously it washed over me. I was sad, hurt,
scared, and confused writing this record.

You can feel the tension that I was experiencing
writing this. You can experience sadness. The
main thing I think that came through is loss.
Loss to me is when anger and sadness walk
hand in hand. It’s not one masking the other it’s
simultaneously those feelings exist.

This is the start to my favorite thing to date we
have written. It’s honest, real, true and authentic.
There’s no hiding. There’s no fabrication. It’s
having the courage to be vulnerable and let it all
hang out and be seen.

At the end of the day it’s being human".

Genius Answer

Will Ramos:

I used to have dreams where I would have this fantastic relationship with somebody, and I can’t even tell who this person is at all because that’s how dreams are. Unfortunately, you can’t make out a lot of things—dreams are so vague. But in your mind, it makes sense. You’re falling in love, and then you’ll wake up from the dream and be like, ‘Shit, that never really happened at all. This sucks.’ In the story, the character has a moment like this. They begin to love in their dreams, which returns meaning to their dreamworld. But they can’t quite find solace.
