Middle of a Breakup Lyrics
Honeybee, honey, I can hear the gossip buzzin' 'round the hive
Ecstasy, love it up until the point you sting me and I die
You and me don't deserve each other
We ain't no star-crossed lovers, we just get carried away
[Pre-Chorus]
Oh shit, you're kissin' my neck, kissin' my chest
Now I remember why we fell in love
Hot smoke, feels like we just met, lips I couldn't kick
Honey, honey, you're my favorite drug
[Chorus]
Keep your disco, give me T. Rex
Makeup sex in the middle of a breakup
Blessed be your last cigarette
Makeup sex in the middle of a breakup
[Verse 2]
Destiny, I hate those words like destiny, forever and all time
Guarantee, guaranteed we live forever, least until tonight
You and me ain't no Bonnie and Clyde
Although we tried and tried, we gave ourselves away (Ahhh)
[Pre-Chorus]
Oh shit, you're kissin' my neck, kissin' my chest
Now I remember why we fell in love
Hot smoke, feels like we just met, lips I couldn't kick
Honey, honey, you're my favorite drug
Keep your disco, give me T. Rex
Makeup sex in the middle of a breakup
Blessed be your last cigarette
Makeup sex in the middle of a breakup
(Makeup sex) In the middle of a breakup
(Makeup sex) In the middle of a breakup
Save the worst, gonna give you my best
Makeup sex in the middle of a breakup
[Guitar Solo]
[Chorus]
Woo!
Keep your disco, give me T. Rex
Makeup sex in the middle of a breakup
Blessed be your last cigarette
Makeup sex in the middle of a breakup
(Makeup sex) In the middle of a breakup
(Breakup sex) In the middle of a breakup
Save the worst, gonna give you my best
Makeup sex in the middle of a breakup
[Outro]
(Makeup sex) Hoo!
(Makeup sex)
Honeybee (Ahhh)
About
“Middle of a Breakup” is the 2nd Single for Panic! at the Disco’s 7th and final studio album “Viva Las Vengeance”
Middle of a Breakup was initially announced with an image posted on the 8th of July, with a jar of “Maggie’s Farm Honey” with the caption reading “Honey honey, you’re my favourite drug”
Later, a clip of the first line was posted as a teaser, however on the 18th of July, an mp3 file of the song got leaked to various fans via emails from (allegedly) Panic!
A few days later on the 21st, the song and an accompanying video was released.
The track was written sometime in late 2020 or early 2021, when Jake Sinclair first introduced Brendon to Mike Viola. The final revision of the song was most likely recorded sometime in mid 2021 when they were working in United Studios.
On 9-3-22 Brendon described songs from VLV in a series of pop-up ADs on Pandora. For this track he stated, “this song is about going through a hard time, and some sexy times.” Obviously tongue and cheek. He has also stated in an interview with Mikey Piff that it was actually the first song he and Viola wrote together.
