Unthought Known Lyrics

[Verse 1]
All the thoughts you never see, you are always thinkin'
Brain is wide, the brain is deep, oh, are you sinkin'?
Feel the path of every day, which road you takin'?
Breathin' hard and makin' hay, yeah, this is livin'

[Verse 2]
Look for love in evidence that you're worth keepin'
Swallowed whole in negatives, it's so sad and sickenin'
Feel the air up above, oh, pool of blue sky
Fill the air up with love, all black with starlight

[Chorus 1]
Feel the sky blanket you with gems and rhinestones
See the path cut by the moon for you to walk on
For you to walk on

[Bridge]
Nothing left, nothing left, nothing there, nothing here
Nothing left, nothing left, nothing there, nothing left
Nothing left, nothing left, nothing there, nothing here
Not here

[Verse 3]
See the path cut by the moon for you to walk on
See the waves on distant shores awaitin' your arrival
[Chorus 2]
Dream the dreams of other men, you'll be no one's rival
Dream the dreams of others, then you will be no one's rival
You will be no one's rival

[Outro]
A distant time, a distant space, that's where we're livin'
A distant time, a distant place, so what you givin'?
What you givin'?

Genius Annotation

“Unthought known” is a phrase coined by Christopher Bollas (a British psychoanalyst) in the 1980s to represent those experiences in some way known to the individual, but about which the individual is unable to think.

Speaking to the audience at Central Park’s Great Lawn in New York City on September 26 for the 2015’s Global Citizen Festival, Ed described how this song came to be:

“It just so happens that 4 or 5 years back between about 4 and 5 in the morning in a room overlooking Central Park, right over there in that corner I was still awake at 4 in the morning, I saw the most beatiful evening sky over Central Park, the streets were empty, the stars were out which is very rare, I had never seen it…

And then I should be getting some sleep but I started scribbling lyrics and if felt like you couldn’t walk out of there, I couldn’t go to sleep because there was magic was happening right in front of me. And then I got to see see the sun rise over this beautiful part of this great city.

When I woke up in the morning, I though it was just a bunch of scrible, which it was… but I actually was able to record it and it was kind of nice to play it back it and it wasn’t the worse thing I ever done.

It could never capture what I saw that night but to have the opportunity to play it back in the middle of the thing that inspired it was something that I never antecipated."

It was also used as soundtrack for the following TV Shows
FlashForward S01E08
Castle S02E21
