Dreamland Lyrics
I heard there's a dreamland
In another world far away
They say it's a free land
And they welcome everyone to stay
You got to take me
You got to make me
Remember how to dream today
I'm so tired of my homeland
When I fall asleep, you lead the way
[Chorus: Neil Tennant & Olly Alexander, Olly Alexander]
Dreamland, I Iove you
I dream of you all night and day
Dreamland, I need you
I close my eyes and you lead the way
Dreamland (Hey, hey)
Dreamland (Hey, hey)
[Verse 2: Olly Alexander & Neil Tennant]
We're falling for pleasure
In a garden where the sun still shines
And staying forever
Leaving all our worries behind
It's a kind of amnesia
Where all problems seem to disappear
And you don't need a visa
You can come and go and still be here
Dreamland, I Iove you
I dream of you all night and day
Dreamland, I need you
I close my eyes and you lead the way
Dreamland, I love you
Dreamland (Hey)
[Bridge: Olly Alexander]
Dreamland is a free land
Kiss me, hold me, take my hand
Sleep is a river
That leads us to a better land
Dreamland
[Interlude: Olly Alexander & Neil Tennant]
I don't wanna wake up (Dreamland)
I don't wanna wake up (Dreamland)
I don't wanna wake up (Dreamland)
I don't wanna wake up (Dreamland)
I don't wanna wake up (Dreamland)
I don't wanna wake up (Dreamland)
I don't wanna wake up (Dreamland)
I don't wanna wake up (Dreamland)
I don't wanna wake up
Dreamland is a free land
Kiss me, hold me, take my hand
Sleep is a river
That leads us to a better land
[Chorus: Neil Tennant & Olly Alexander]
Dreamland, I Iove you
I dream of you all night and day
Dreamland, I need you
I close my eyes and you lead the way
Dreamland, I love you
I dream of you all night and day
Dreamland, I need you
I close my eyes and you lead the way
Dreamland
About
“Dreamland” is the first single from Pet Shop Boys’s fourteenth studio album Hotspot. The moody synth-pop track was created in collaboration with Years & Years, and was originally intended for their 2018 album Palo Santo. When it became apparent that the song didn’t fit with that album’s narrative concept, PSB continued working on it with producer Stuart Price for their own album.
Per Years & Years’s Olly Alexander, the song is named after/inspired by an amusement park of the same name located in in the English seaside town of Margate. As on PSB’s “Luna Park”, amusement park imagery is used as a fairly explicit metaphor for American political unrest. (PSB’s Neil Tennant actually pushed Alexander to make the subtext “more direct.”)
