In the Night Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Zazou, what you gonna do?
There's a lot of people gunning for you
Zazou, comment allez-vous?
A knock on the door in the night

[Verse 2]
That Zazou, he don't care
Dark glasses, long hair
Takes his time, sneers at men
Some ugly people want revenge
Zazou, comment allez-vous?
A knock on the door in the night
In the night

[Verse 3]
That Zazou he sleeps all day
Then down to Select or Le Collisée
Sips his drinks, orders more
Says what he thinks and it's a crazy war
Zazou, what you gonna do?
A knock on the door in the night

[Interlude]

[Verse 4]
Zazou. comment allez-vous?
A knock on the door in the night
[Chorus]
And when the soldiers strut
All he cares about is love
When the flags are out
All he cares about is love
Well there's a thin line between love and crime
And in this situation
A thin line between love and crime and

In the night

[Verse 5]
Zazou, what you gonna do?
There's a lot of people gunning for you
Zazou, comment allez-vous?

[Verse 6]
Now everybody's under somebody's spell
Unless they've already gone to Hell
In the streets you can hear the people say
"That Zazou, he should be locked away!"
[Chorus]
And when the soldiers strut
All he cares about is love
When the flags are out
All he cares about is love
Well there's a thin line between love and crime

About

Genius Annotation

A B-side from the 1985 single release of “Opportunities (Let’s Make Lots Of Money)”. The song is about the “Zazous”, a underground cultural scene during the German occupation of France in World War II.

Neil Tennant later said:

We had the musical idea of writing a song with the same chord change and tempo as ‘Opportunities’, which it was going to be the b-side of. We thought you would then be able to mix one into the other.

“In The Night” became famous as the theme music for the BBC fashion programme, The Clothes Show.
