“I must apologise” is the fifth single from PinkPantheress’s debut mixtape, to hell with it. The track was originally teased with a snippet posted by PinkPantheress on TikTok in May 2021, which was used in over 70,000 videos on the platform. It was produced by Oscar Scheller and released on October 6, 2021.
Following in the footsteps of some of PinkPantheress’s biggest hits so far (“Break It Off”, “Passion”), “I must apologise” is another sample-heavy drum-and-bass track. The song borrows from the house classic “Gypsy Woman” by Crystal Waters, and is written about the narrator ruining their relationships through their compulsive lying.

This track was produced by Oscar Scheller [Rina Sawayama, Ashnikko]. I was trying to stay away from a sample at this point, but there’s something about this beat [from Crystal Waters’ 1991 single ‘Gypsy Woman (She’s Homeless)’] which drugged me. When we started writing it, Oscar gave me the idea for one of the melodies and I remember thinking, ‘Wow, this actually is probably going to end up being one of my favourite songs just based off of this great melody that he’s just come up with.’
