Wonders of the Younger Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Race-cars and spaceships and carnival rides
Ghosts in the graveyard that come out at night
These are the wonders of the younger

[Verse 2]
Daydreams of castle and sad crystal balls
While your heroes on posters stand guard on your walls
These are the wonders of the younger

[Chorus]
And I wonder why we just leave it all behind?
And I wonder how we could all go back right now?

[Verse 3]
Werewolves and vampires are out for the kill
If none of them get you, the Bogeyman will
These are the wonders of the younger

[Verse 4]
Walkin' the plank off an old pirate ship
With a fistful of gold and her kiss on your lips
These are the wonders of the younger

[Chorus]
And I wonder why we just leave it all behind?
And I wonder how we could all go back right now?
[Bridge]
Click your heels, close your eyes
Make a wish, wave goodbye
Fly away, it's not too late
Change your mind

[Verse 5]
Now numbers and figures take up all my time
How did this much of my life pass me by?
I miss the wonders of the younger

Genius Annotation

Tom Higgenson was inspired to write this song after seeing the Cirque du Soleil show ‘O.’
Higgenson told Alternative Press magazine: “Once I played this song for the band, they understood my crazy concept for this album. The album is all about looking back on the good old days—when life was simple. The days before we had responsibility. The days when we lived in the moment. The days of our youth. My big idea is that maybe with some good music to inspire us and the use of our own imaginations, we can recapture a bit of that wonder. Maybe, just maybe, even if only for a moment, we can all be young again.”
