적당히 하라고, oh-oh-oh
그냥 닥치고 다 같이 놀아보자고, oh-oh-oh

About

This song bio is unreviewed
Genius Annotation

“That That” marks the first collaboration between South Korean soloist, PSY and BTS’s SUGA. The track continues the fun and collaborative energy from PSY’s 9th full album after his 5 year hiatus, PSY 9TH.

On “That That” an electronic dance-pop rhythm is accompanied by lyrics that describe the excitement of people who’ve now finally gotten the chance to party the most they ever can.

Inside the production of the music video, the video portrays a vintage cowboy setting, where Suga and PSY are enemies. Interestingly, PSY also brings back his outfit from “강남스타일 (Gangnam Style)” where he comes out of a blue car and is then seen fighting with Suga one again.

What did PSY say about "That That"?
Genius Answer

When meeting younger artists, I don’t want to make them feel uncomfortable, I don’t want to be someone who’s hard to approach. I think about this quite a bit. He wasn’t just my junior in the business, but also he truly feels like a friend. It was hard to feel any age gap. If he thinks of me as a bestie, that’s great for me. How much younger does that make me?

We have a saying in the K-Pop industry. If the song is meant to be a hit, it’s made in a “jiff.” It was a jiff I haven’t experienced in a long time. I wrote my part and sent it to SUGA, and SUGA took it. And just like table tennis, we went back and forth with ease. We really hit it off.

What has SUGA said about working together on the song?
Genius Answer

At first, because he’s many years my senior and someone who’s so well-respected in the business, I was quite nervous. It felt like working with a childhood friend, so it made the songwriting process that much more fun. We become besties in a way.

We really made this song in a jiff. We made the guide vocals, and with it I edited, then I wrote my verse. And the writing process was super speedy.

What was the process behind the song?
Genius Answer

At first I just wanted to give the song to him, but he had a few requests, so I redid the arrangement and that was the beat you hear today. That process of back-and-forth was really fun. At first I decided I would just play it for him, and if he didn’t like it, I’d just let it go, but PSY said that he had been working on music for 22 years and now he needed some young blood, and said he wanted to do the song. I think we both found the experience fun. No matter how hard he tried to keep his style out of it, the parts he wrote have his fingerprints all over them. (laughs) I wrote the verses and the hook that goes, “that that I like that,” which feels typical of my style, and then I put in a rap part for the people who are going to listen to the song since it’s been two years since I released D-2. Because I wanted to give them something that sounded similar to my mixtapes. But the melody that PSY wrote was just a straight-up PSY song. (laughs) We divided up the labor and wrote separately, but I learned a lot from him. It was an entirely different production experience for me; there was something about his attitude when making music that resonated with me.
