“Ryan & Dave” by Rare Americans, released as an animated music video initially, then included on the Brittle Bones Nicky EP and then the album Rare Americans 2, tells the story of a pug named Dave and his cousin, Ryan, who is a wolf.

Initially best friends in their childhood, the two branched towards different paths in life as Ryan refused to adopt social norms and eventually fell to a severe drug addiction, presumably being unemployed as well because of this. Dave helps Ryan overcome his addiction by sending him to detox as he is tired of funding his bad habits and his wife and children are afraid of Ryan.

The story is not only an uplifting, emotional message to those who are or know someone struggling with addiction, but the epitome of the band’s ability to tell narratives through songwriting as it has very unique lyrics told through catchy melodies.
