Funky Crime Lyrics

[Intro: Jack Irons with Hillel Slovak]
Do it
Yeah, sing it, Anthony!

[Refrain]
Why do you do what you do?
I do what I want to do
Who said you could do what you do?
I told you who told me to
I do what I want to do
I do what I want to do!

[Chorus]
A funky crime, funky crime!
Don't you know funk's colorblind?
Well, I've committed a funky crime!
Against a state of mind

[Interlude: Hillel Slovak]
Y'all Flea, tell me what's going wrong
Are you okay?

[Verse]
Hey you, Mister Interview
I don't have to answer you
This is what I grew into
Don't judge me and my soul stew
Funk is my attitude
Funk is my attitude
[Chorus]
Funky crime, funky crime!
Don't you know funk's colorblind?
Well, I've committed a funky crime!
Against a state of mind

[Interlude: Hillel Slovak]
We play funk, punk and rock
We’re truly the best
Group in Hollywood, baby

[Bridge]
Barriers of race
In the media take place
Tellin' you there is no room
For what you do, don't budge
There's no groove to your cold gloom
And who made you the judge?
Always room for funky tunes
And yes I funk it up, I funk it up, a-ha!

[Break]
Funky boy
Meets a funky girl
Make a funky baby
'Cause the funk is crazy
[Refrain]
Why do you do what you do?
I do what I want to do
Who said you could do what you do?
I told you who told me to
I do what I want to do
I do what I want to do!

[Chorus]
Funky crime, funky crime!
Don't you know funk's colorblind?
Well, I've committed a funky crime!
Against a state of mind

[Outro]
Funky crime
A Funky crime
A Funky, funky crime
The crime is funky

About

Genius Annotation

According to Anthony’s autobiography Scar Tissue:

“Funky Crime'‘ was basically a lyrical description of a conversation that we’d had with George Clinton, in which he maintained that music itself was color-blind but the media and the radio stations segregate it based on their perceptions of the artists.
