“Who’s that Girl?” is a question taken up in different ways by many female pop stars, including Madonna, Annie Lennox in Eurythmics, and Eve. Robyn gives us her own version which focuses on the gendered expectations of women in this song. Yelle covered Robyn’s song in 2009.

“Who’s that Girl” was made in collaboration with the experimental synth-pop duo the Knife. Robyn’s label at the time, Jive Records, did not receive the song well, and this led to Robyn’s decision to leave the label. She bought out of her deal and founded Konichiwa Records in 2005 in order to have total creative independence. “Who’s that Girl?” charted at #26 in the UK and #37 in Sweden.
