Doesn’t Do Me Any Good Lyrics

[Intro]
Ooh, ooh

[Verse 1]
They said a man rich with love
Could go crazy
Spendin' all his gold
Bettin' on a maybe, ooh-ah

[Pre-Chorus]
Just like that river, baby
Don't let it be misunderstood

[Chorus]
If you told me to come runnin'
Runnin', runnin'
You know that I would (I would, I would)
You know that I would (I would, I would)
All for you

[Verse 2]
You know, I'd satisfy you, honey
Ooh, on the daily (On the daily)
She got me cryin' to the Lord
Screamin' out, "Oh, someone come and save me" (Come and save me, come and save me)
[Pre-Chorus]
Just like that mountain, baby (Ooh, ooh-ooh)
My love is standin' tall for you

[Chorus]
You said you'd love me if you could (Love me if you could)
It doesn't do me any good (Do me any good)
You know that I would (I would, I would)
You know that I would (I would, I would)
You know that I would (I would, I would)
You know that I would
Ooh, ooh, yeah

[Instrumental Outro: Electric Guitar Solo]

Genius Annotation

“Doesn’t Do Me Any Good” plays a part in Angel Face’s larger love story arc, about The Troubadour Sanchez and Evangeline in 1964.

The song is a painful conversation between The Troubadour Sanchez and Evangeline. Though Evangeline loves him, she can’t pursue him because she’s with her mob member-ex Hunter. Throughout the song, The Troubadour Sanchez tries to explain that her proclamations of love don’t do him any good if they can’t be together.

The song is sang from the perspective of The Troubadour Sanchez to Evangeline.

Genius Answer

“Doesn’t Do Me Any Good” was the most frustrating [song on the album to write] I would say. It was more about the melodic changes and the structure of the song that was really challenging and took a while to really nail because we weren’t doing it all live. I feel like a lot of artists back in the day had a lot more dynamic changes because they were doing it live and they were just being a band, you know?

In the studio, obviously I’m only working with Konrad [Snyder] and Ian [Fitchuk], but we wrote that song with Daniel Tashian and it was just the four of us in that room. It was just like, “Man, this is such a mountain of a song to be on the record!”. It was, dare I say, one of the bigger vocal moments, other than “Be More”. I think it was also just extremely difficult to sing in the studio but, gosh, it really paid off. I think that’s a testament to this new record… that, as much as it is a new sound for me (and one that I love so much already as it stands), I think the vocal performances are some of my best and are unlike anything that has been out in a while; I think it’s gonna be really great!
