Only Girl Lyrics

[Verse 1]
If love is an understatement
Then, honey, I'm a goddamn fool
When I tell you there's no replacement
For what you do to me

[Pre-Chorus]
So give all your love to me
And give all your love to me
Those other boys will let you down
Know I would never mess around
One, two, three

[Chorus]
Baby, won't you be my girl?
Baby, won't you be my girl?
Baby, won't you be my only girl?

[Verse 2]
Love's a dog and, it's tail, I'm chasin'
I'm pullin' down the moon for us
Stumble towards the room, heart's racin'
Just know that it's because of you

[Pre-Chorus]
So give all your love to me
And give all your love to me
Those other boys will let you down
Know I would never mess around
One, two, three, ah
[Chorus]
Baby, won't you be my girl?
Baby, won't you be my girl?
Baby, won't you be my only girl?
Baby, won't you be my girl?
Your loving's got my head in a twirl, lady
So, baby, won't you be my only girl?

[Bridge]
I don't want nobody else
No, I just want you to myself
So won't you please forever be
My only girl, only girl?
I don't want nobody else
No, I just want you to myself
So won't you please forever be
My only girl, only girl?

[Chorus]
Baby, won't you be my girl?
Baby, won't you be my girl?
Baby, won't you be my only girl?

[Outro]
Baby, won't you be my only girl?

About

Genius Annotation

“Only Girl” plays a part in the album’s larger love story arc, between the characters of Troubadour Sanchez, Evangeline, and Hunter in 1964.

The song is a dialogue and sentiment between rivals: Hunter, a mob member who previously dated Evangeline; and Troubadour Sanchez, her new lover who he hears about and gets jealous. Hunter meets up with her again and is wanting her to be his “only girl”.

This song is sang from the perspective of both Hunter (verses and choruses) and Troubadour Sanchez (pre-choruses and choruses) to Evangeline.

What did Stephen Sanchez say about "Only Girl"?
Genius Answer

“Only Girl” is a dialogue and sentiment between rival characters that appear in the universe behind my new music: The Troubadour Sanchez and a mysterious past love of Evangeline’s (seen in the lyric video). Both characters sing with the same heart, seeking to be with Evangeline in 1964. With “Only Girl”, I want people to feel like they are part of the counterculture of 1964 when they listen to this new era of music. A counterculture that focused on love; I want to ingrain that theme of love into today’s world… a world that doesn’t have enough classic romance.
