Meant To Live (Jon Bellion Version) Lyrics
Fumbling his confidence
And wondering why the world has passed him by
Hoping that he's bent for more than arguments
And failed attempts to fly, mm
[Chorus]
We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
Somewhere we live inside
Somewhere we live inside
We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
Somewhere we live inside
[Verse 2]
Dreamin' about Providence
And whether mice or men have second tries
Maybe we've been livin' with our eyes half open
Maybe we're bent and broken, ooh
[Chorus]
We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
Somewhere we live inside
Somewhere we live inside
We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
Somewhere we live inside
We want more than this world's got to offer
We want more than this world's got to offer
We want more than the wars of our fathers
And everything inside screams for second life, ooh ah
[Chorus]
We were meant to live for so much more than this
Have we lost ourselves?
Somewhere we live inside
Somewhere we live inside
We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves
For somewhere we live inside?
[Outro]
And somewhere we live inside
Somewhere we live inside
Somewhere we live inside, ooh
Somewhere we live inside

I remember so clearly being 13 years old, driving home from somewhere with my parents. I remember hearing the voice on the radio say “this one’s called “meant to live” from a band by the name of switchfoot". I remember being frozen in the back seat as the song unfolded, absolutely wrecked. Like someone saw my inner thoughts and put them on blast.
I can truly say im not sure I ever felt that way about a song that strongly ever again in my life. Tears running down my face, I thought to myself “I think I wanna write songs”.
Fast forward and through an unreal series of events, im asked by that same band to remake my own version of the song that got me into music. After nights of toying with the idea of backing out from the pressure of not living up to one of the greatest songs ever written, I agreed.
Thanks to John Metcalf and everyone at Abbey Road for providing a timeless orchestration I could have never dreamed of putting together on my own.And thanks to John Foreman and Switchfoot for putting together a record that redirected a young confused teenager’s self-worth and put him on a path to chase music for the rest of his life.
