The Dying Light Lyrics
This town is a world of waifs and strays
Comedy giants, penniless heroes
Dead men at the bar, I've drank with them all
Through misadventure and drag
But I'm alone here
Even though I'm physically not
And those dead boys are always there
There's more every year
[Verse 2]
Maybe I could use a hand
I must admit I'm out of bright ideas to keep the hell at bay
Distractions only last a day
The night is so impossible
It haunts the few who dare to look
Its marks are so hereditary
I'm terrified of having kids
But I'm damnеd if I give up tonight
I must repel thе dying light
For Mam and Dad and all my pals
For all the ones who didn't make the night
[Outro]
Oh-oh
Yeah
Oh, oh-oh
Oh-oh
Hey-hey, hey-hey

This is a sequel to “Dead Boys” [2018 track examining male suicide]. It’s in the perspective of somebody who’s actually thinking that they might take their own life. I wanted it to be the triumph over it—in the moment when you decide, ‘No, I’m not going to do this, or I can’t leave those behind.’

Yeah, it was written when I was going through a time where I realised that I needed a bit of help. I just wasn’t dealing with anything, I always just thought that thought that well, everyone has their issues and stuff. And I thought if I became a famous rock star, it would just fix everything. What I realised is it fixed my financial problems, and I could help my mum out finally, but it didn’t fix the feelings. It didn’t fix my imposter syndrome, and it didn’t fix the way I felt as a man. It took us a bit of time to sort that one. All of the things you didn’t like yourself for before, they don’t go away. If anything, it’s amplified because you’ve got MORE reasons to dislike yourself because you’re like ‘well, now you’ve got money, you think you’re fucking brilliant’.
They’re still all my mates. The only people I really hang out with from the fucking celeb world is like, a couple of other bands that I get on with. I like the lads from Fontaines D.C., and I’m pals with Elton John and that, but my friend group is still very much my mates from home, you know? When I’ve got trouble, they’re still the people that I go to.
