Who We Love Lyrics

[Verse 1: Sam Smith & Ed Sheeran]
Colour the empty space
Kiss in a crowded place
Stand in the summer rain
Tangled in awkward shapes
A new but familiar taste
You're feelin' it all again

[Chorus: Sam Smith & Ed Sheeran]
It's not wrong
To want the world for someone
It's not a feeling you can run from
'Cause we love who we love
So let go
You don't know better than your heart knows
Whether they're here or long gone
We love who we love

Yeah, we love who we love

[Verse 2: Ed Sheeran & Sam Smith]
Footprints along the sand
Whispers of sweet romancе
Sound of a wedding band (Mmm)
Holding hands in the street
No need to be discreet
Finally feelin' free

[Chorus: Ed Sheeran & Sam Smith]
It's not wrong
To want thе world for someone
It's not a feeling you can run from
'Cause we love who we love
So let go
You don't know better than your heart knows
Whether they're here or long gone
Yeah, we love who we love
Yeah, we love who we love

[Verse 3: Sam Smith]
The universe has pulled us closer
I trust whatever's brought me here to you
You can never lose

If love is what you feel then

[Chorus: Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran & Both]
It's not wrong
To want the world
for someone
It's not a feeling
you can run from
'Cause we love who we love
So let go (So let go)
You don't know better than your heart knows
Whether they're here
or long gone
Yeah, we love who we love
Yeah, we love who we love

Genius Annotation

This collaboration between Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran has resulted in a gentle, well-crafted song and an effective duet in which the two voices complement each other and blend smoothly.

The pace of most of the songs on the Gloria album is faster and stylistically more inventive. Sam chose to end with a slow, traditional ballad more in keeping with their earlier musical style.

Genius Answer

Ed sent me this song, and I was fearful to begin with because I don’t usually take songs and make them mine. Ed and I have been friends for a long time. I’m not interested in doing an Ed collab that sounds like a hit—I wanted it to mean something. And when I heard this, I felt truly touched. I felt like it was a queer ballad anthem written from a friend. There was something so poignant and beautiful about it. Ed has personally guided me through tough times and been a friend in a very cold industry. I wanted everything about this song to feel warm.
