Spirit 2.0 Lyrics

[Intro]
Waves will catch you (Oh)
Light will catch you (Oh)
Love will catch you (Oh)
Spirit gon' catch you, yeah (Oh-oh)
Flashes capture us

[Verse 1]
Lyin’ in reflections
Moonlight hits your skin
Safe in conversation
You question where I've been
Two bodies on this mattress (Ooh, yeah)
Save me as it sinks (Ooh, yeah)
Automatic self-protection (Ooh, yeah)
Like airbags in my limbs

[Pre-Chorus]
Next thing I'm drifting into open sky
And I don’t feel so scared
Dreamin' with these open eyes
I'm grabbin' at the air

[Chorus]
Waves will catch you, light will catch you
Love will catch you, spirit gon' catch you, yeah
Faith will catch you, friends will catch you
Time will catch you, flash will capture us
Waves will catch you, light will catch you
Love will catch you, spirit gon' catch you, yeah
Faith will catch you, friеnds will catch you
Time will catch you, flash will capture us
[Verse 2]
Travelling for hеaling
I been speaking, I had to, speak to myself
How far will I go?
Spirit, spirit, yeah
Still wear that chain you gave me
That eagle made of gold

[Pre-Chorus]
And now I'm driftin' into open skies (Yeah)
I ain’t scared as before, ain’t as scared as before

[Chorus]
Waves will catch you, light will catch you
Love will catch you, spirit gon' catch you, yeah
Faith will catch you (Faith will catch you), friends will catch you (Friends will catch you)
Time will catch you, flash will capture us
Waves will catch you, light will catch you
Love will catch you, spirit gon’ catch you, yeah
Faith will catch you, friends will catch you
Time will catch you, flash will capture us

[Interlude]
Like, is anybody out there?
Like signals, messages, everything
(Spirit gon' catch you)
[Verse 3]
Just like Jonathan Livingston Seagull (Woo)
Try catch the clouds as I free fall
(Yeah)
I was caught by the wings of my people (Woo)
Then you pick me up in your two-door (Yeah)
Hit the country roads, peaceful (Woo)
Can you fill me in with the info (Yeah)
Stock was risin' like tenfold (Woo)
But you're more concerned for my mental (Yeah)
Shutting down is your default (Woo)
Circling for a cheat code (Yeah)
Sun is out and it feels cold (Woo)
Camera zoom on the eagle (Yeah)
Find a bench and we recall (Woo)
Memories through a peephole (Yeah)
Reconnect with the real goal (Woo)
Camera zoom on my people (Yeah)

[Outro: Sampha & Yaeji]
Ooh, yeah
Ooh, yeah
Ooh, yeah
Ooh, yeah
Ooh, yeah
Ooh, yeah
Ooh, yeah
Ooh, yeah
Ooh, yeah

What has the artist said about the song?
Genius Answer

It’s about the importance of connection to both myself and others, and the beauty and harsh realities of just existing. It’s about acknowledging those moments when you need help – that requires real strength.

I hope people can enjoy that feeling of someone being there for you, even if that person doesn’t have the answers. Just calling someone up without overthinking… letting go and just dancing.. wanting to see past the mundanity of things and appreciating the magic of it all, from birds nests to spaceships.

What have the artists said about the song?
Genius Answer

It’s a song I started in my bedroom, a song I wrote walking through parks in solitude, a song I wrote at a time I felt I needed to hear for myself. It took probably a year from start to finish for that song to come together. I had the chords and the modular synths going for a while and then eventually I wrote a melody. Then I had an idea for the drums and I recorded the drums. It was also influenced by West African folk music, Wassoulou music. I guess that isn’t maybe quite obvious to everyone, but I’ve made quite a thing of talking about it—it’s influenced the way I write rhythmically.
