Boys Ain’t Shit Lyrics

[Pre-Chorus]
Why do you waste all my time?
Keep on telling me lies 'cause you know I'll come right back
When you don't even write back

[Chorus]
These boys ain't shit, I'm not here for it
If you want me, act like it, act like it
These boys get pissed 'cause I won't stand for it
If you want the sweet life, then act like it

[Bridge]
Run it backwards
Don't be such an asshole
Don't get mad, though
Run it, run it backwards

Run it backwards
Don't be such an asshole
Don't get mad, though
Run it, run it backwards
These boys ain't shit

[Chorus]
These boys ain't shit, I'm not here for it
If you want me, act like it, act like it
These boys get pissed 'cause I won't stand for it
If you want the sweet life, then act like it
[Outro]
Ah, ah, ah
These boys ain't shit, I'm not here for it
If you want me, act like it, act like it

I was dating this boy and I was very much invested and one day a girlfriend popped up on his Instagram that I had no idea about, obviously. And I was bamboozled by the whole thing really. My initial reaction was, I never been in that position before. I’d never had anybody try to make me a side piece or whatever the fuck he was trying to do. But I guess my initial reaction was just like trying to piece everything together, like a pie in my head. Like, all the signs were there, but like I said, I’ve never experienced that before, so I kind of didn’t know what to even look for. So yes, that’s the general inspiration is really just came from this one guy who turned out had a girlfriend the entire time we were fucking with each other, so that’s nice. Basically a guy who wasn’t shit. But it was in general. I felt like God was just throwing losers at me and my friends were going through the same shit as well. And every time I would deal with a guy, I’d meet new guys or whatever, it was the same shit over and over again. If I like you, I’m investing my time managing into you and you’re going to know that I like you. If I don’t like you, you’re going to know as well. And when I don’t, when I’m not met with that same transparency. I don’t understand. I don’t get that. And that was the energy I was receiving. It was just all these games, all this gray area, just not prioritizing the person that you’re dealing with feelings at all. And I feel like my whole generation, there was this overall, as a collective, kind of disrespect towards relationships and commitment and love, really.

I wrote “Boys Ain’t Shit” literally a week after I found out that this dude had a girlfriend the entire time we were dealing with each other. So I had already confronted him and like I said, I was piecing together timelines in my head and through extensive social media stalking, figuring out more and more pieces of the puzzle. Even realizing that days when we would be really hot and heavy in communication or we’d get to see each other or whatever, she would be conveniently out of town for a week or some shit like that. And everything just kind of came full circle. And then I went into the studio with Rockies and two writers, Britton And Sam Fisher. Rockies was just playing these chords and I was like, these boys ain’t shit. It just was very matter of fact. And I wanted the whole song to be super conversational to a point where if he heard it, he would kind of know without me having to really be like, Hey, I wrote the song for you.

What advice do you have for other people in toxic relationships?

I think as women we’ve really just got to stop accepting less than what we deserve. And certainly at that point in my life I was definitely dealing with a lot of stuff and my mind and soul was clouded and I’m thankful that I had music to be able to express and get it out and just say what the fuck I had to say in a very blunt way. But yeah, there’s many situations where I just see girls accepting so much more love than you’re allowing yourself to receive. So it comes down to really just knowing your own self-worth. And that’s obviously a process and doesn’t happen overnight and I still struggle with it and definitely accept things that I shouldn’t. I’m not an expert. I’m in no position to give advice on how to deal with it. My best advice is just don’t accept what you don’t deserve and tell these boys they can’t just be reckless with people’s feelings. I think that concept of being morally black and white is something that everybody needs to do. I don’t understand why you would fill somebody’s head with false hope and make them feel like they’re something that they’re not to you. If you don’t really have intentions of it being anything more than whatever the fuck you’re trying to make it, it’s just like, why would you do that? What kind of sick fuck would do that? Just be real if you don’t like me, if you’re not feeling it cool, I’ll live. It’s fine.
