Hips Don’t Lie - Bamboo (2006 FIFA World Cup Mix) Lyrics

[Intro: Shakira]
Bamboo (Bamboo)
Perfection, perfection

[Pre-Chorus: Wyclef Jean & Shakira]
I never really knew that she could dance like this (Hey)
She make a man wanna speak Spanish
¿Cómo se llama (¡Sí!), bonita? (¡Sí!)
Mi casa, su casa (Shakira, Shakira)
Oh baby, when you talk like that (Huh-uh) (Oh)
You make a woman go mad (Yeah)
So be wise (¡Sí!) and keep on (¡Sí!)
Reading the signs of my body (Uno, dos, tres, cuatro)
No fighting

[Chorus: Shakira & Wyclef Jean]
I'm on tonight
You know my hips don't lie (No fighting)
And I'm starting to feel it's right (Yeah)
Ay, ay, ay, do the bamboo
La gloria te está esperando
[Post-Chorus: Shakira & Wyclef Jean]
¡Latino, (Oh!) Africano! (Oh!)
¡Asiático, Americano, tu Dios te está mirando!
Bamboo (Bamboo)
Todo el mundo está de pie (Todo el mundo está de pie)
Hoy nacerá un Salvador (Hoy nacerá un Salvador)
Que nos devuelva la fé (Que nos devuelva la fé)
No fighting tonight!

[Pre-Chorus: Wyclef Jean & Shakira]
I never really knew that she could dance like this (Hey)
She make a man wanna speak Spanish
¿Cómo se llama (¡Sí!), bonita? (¡Sí!)
Mi casa, su casa (Shakira, Shakira)
Oh baby, when you talk like that (Huh-uh) (Oh)
You make a woman go mad (Oh)
So be wise (¡Sí!) and keep on (¡Sí!)
Reading the signs of my body
No fighting

[Chorus: Shakira & Wyclef Jean]
I'm on tonight
You know my hips don't lie (No fighting)
And I'm starting to feel you, boy
Ay, ay, ay, do the bamboo
La gloria te está esperando
They know I'm on tonight
My hips don't lie
And I'm starting to feel it's right
Come on, let's go, let's go
Tu Dios te está mirando
[Bridge: Wyclef Jean & Shakira]
Baila en la calle de noche (Uh, yeah)
Baila en la calle de día (Let's go!)
Baila en la calle de noche (Uh, yeah)
Baila en la calle de día (Let's go!)
People in the front - don't fight tonight!
People in the side - don't fight tonight!
People in the back - don't fight tonight!
Don't fight tonight, don't fight tonight!
Let's go!

[Verse: Wyclef Jean & Shakira]
I'm a student of Pelé, call me Pelé player
Eleven on the field with the heart of a gladiator
One: goal, two: goal, three: goal, goal!
I'ma play till my knees grow low
One: goal, two: goal, three: goal, goal!
Everybody in the FIFA, in the final state, go
And my football jersey says Maradona
And the crowd chants sounds like spirits from Africa

[Outro: Shakira]
Bamboo (Bamboo) (Come on!)

About

Genius Annotation

Released in 2006, this was Colombian singer-songwriter Shakira’s first #1 hit in the United States. Featuring Wyclef Jean from The Fugees, the song heavily sampled Wyclef’s 2004 song Dance Like This. Co-Produced and co-written by Shakira, Wyclef, and Jerry Duplessis, Hips Don’t Lie was the most-played pop song in a single week in American radio history. It was played 9,637 times in the week ending June, 2, 2006, according to Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems. The song was originally written by Wyclef and titled Lips Don’t Lie for the planned Fugees reunion, which never happened. After rewriting it with Shakira, she explained the new title as her in-studio mantra about how to determine where a song she is working on needs to go. “If my hips are not moving, this isn’t working” is her outlook.
