Sunny Came Home Lyrics
Sunny came home to her favorite room
Sunny sat down in the kitchen
She opened a book and a box of tools
Sunny came home with a mission
[Chorus]
She says, "Days go by, I'm hypnotized
I'm walking on a wire
I close my eyes and fly out of my mind
Into the fire"
[Verse 2]
Sunny came home with a list of names
She didn't believe in transcendence
"And it's time for a few small repairs," she said
Sunny came home with a vengeance
[Chorus]
She says, "Days go by, I don't know why
I'm walking on a wire
I close my eyes and fly out of my mind
Into the fire"
[Bridge]
Get the kids and bring a sweater
Dry is good and wind is better
Count the years, you always knew it
Strike a match, go on and do it
Oh, days go by, I'm hypnotized
I'm walking on a wire
I close my eyes and fly out of my mind
Into the fire
Oh, light the sky and hold on tight
The world is burning down
She's out there on her own and she's alright
Sunny came home
[Outro]
Sunny came home
Came home
Home
About
“Sunny Came Home” is about a woman named Sunny who burns her house down to escape her past.
In April of 2013, during a concert in Perth, Australia, Shawn confirmed that the song is a murder ballad.
“Sunny Came Home” peaked at #7 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1997 and won two Grammy awards for “Record of the Year” and “Song of the Year.”
While Shawn was accepting the Grammy for Song of the Year, Ol' Dirty Bastard rushed the stage to proclaim that “Wu-Tang is for the children” and that Wu-Tang was better than Puff Daddy, who had earlier won the award for Best Rap Album.

It was the last song to be written, or for me to put lyrics to, on that record. I had already chosen the cover of the record, which was a painting by a dear friend of mine, Julie Speed. And there’s a woman, obviously, with a match. A lit match, and what appears to be a huge fire in the background ― in the far, far, background ― and I thought, why don’t you write a story about her?”
