Ski Mask the Slump God reunites with STOKELEY collaborator Kenny Beats on “Merlin’s Staff,” which flips the instrumental of Missy Elliot’s 2002 song “Work It.”
The track marks Ski Mask the Slump God’s third tribute to childhood idols Missy Elliot and Timbaland: the Florida rapper previously sampled the duo’s work on 2017’s “Catch Me Outside” and “ILoveYourAunt,” two homages that earned him a cosign from Missy Elliot.
“Merlin’s Staff” was first teased by Ski on Instagram in August 2019 under the name “QUICKSTAND.” Ski later previewed a snippet of his verse in early January 2020. Kenny Beats teased the song on a livestream in March 2020.
