Open Your Eyes Lyrics
All this feels strange and untrue
And I won't waste a minute without you
My bones ache, my skin feels cold
And I'm getting so tired and so old
The anger swells in my guts
And I won't feel these slices and cuts
I want so much to open your eyes
'Cause I need you to look into mine
[Chorus]
Tell me that you'll open your eyes
Tell me that you'll open your eyes
Tell me that you'll open your eyes
Tell me that you'll open your eyes
[Verse 2]
Get up, get out, get away from these liars
'Cause they don't get your soul or your fire
Take my hand, knot your fingers through mine
And we'll walk from this dark room for the last time
Every minute from this minute now
We can do what we like anywhere
I want so much to open your eyes
'Cause I need you to look into mine
Tell me that you'll open your eyes
Tell me that you'll open your eyes
Tell me that you'll open your eyes
Tell me that you'll open your eyes
Tell me that you'll open your eyes
Tell me that you'll open your eyes
Tell me that you'll open your eyes
Tell me that you'll open your eyes
[Instrumental Break]
[Outro]
All this feels strange and untrue
And I won't waste a minute without you
About
When you find out this was the fifth single from Eyes Open, it almost boggles the mind. The track was huge for the band, charting well in the UK, Germany and Australia. There is power behind the words. The entire album may be about heartbreak, but this track exemplifies longing and desperation.
The music video is footage from the film C'était un rendez-vous, an almost mythical creation by Claude Lelouch that features an unknown car driving dangerously through the streets of Paris.
The song proved popular with TV shows, being used in Football Focus, ER, Grey’s Anatomy and The Office.

According to Gary Lightbody in 2013:
The song ‘Open Your Eyes’ was written in County Kerry, in a town called Dingle. It’s got that repetitive, meditative, hypnotic kind of feel to it until it sort of explodes at the end and feels like it’s releasing long-held tensions. Which I hope it does, you know? Holding that tension and releasing it is a kind of discipline, and it’s also a good path to joy.
