Sharp Objects Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Mama always said that love's a crazy game
Watched it drive her wild 'til she went insane (Oh, do-do-do)
Walkin' on the broken glass from picture frames
Guess I didn't learn my lesson from her pain (Oh well)

[Pre-Chorus]
Been told this all my life
The heart cuts deeper than a knife
It's dangerous
But I play with sharp objects
There ain't no guarantee
That loving you won't make me bleed
It's dangerous
But I play with sharp objects

[Chorus]
Sh-sh-sharp
Sh-sh-sharp
Yeah, I play with sharp objects
I'm not afraid of (Sh-sh-sharp)
I'm not afraid of (Sh-sh-sharp)
I'm not afraid
Yeah, I play with sharp objects

[Verse 2]
Maybe it's because my tongue's a razor blade
But I can take a papercut with no Band-Aid (Oh, do-do-do)
If there ain't any difference (Oh-oh-oh)
Between lovin' and runnin' with scissors (Oh-oh-oh)
Then I'm a-okay (Okay)
'Cause that's the type of the rush I'm cravin'
[Pre-Chorus]
Been told this all my life (Ah)
The heart cuts deeper than a knife
It's dangerous (It's dangerous)
But I play with sharp objects
There ain't no guarantee (Ah, ah-ah, ah, ah)
That loving you won't make me bleed
It's dangerous (It's dangerous)
But I play with sharp objects

[Chorus]
Sh-sh-sharp (Oh-oh, oh-oh)
Sh-sh-sharp (Oh-oh, oh-oh-oh)
Yeah, I play with sharp objects
I'm not afraid of (Sh-sh-sharp)
I'm not afraid of (Sh-sh-sharp)
I'm not afraid
Yeah, I play with sharp objects

[Outro]
Na-na-na, na-na
Na-na-na, na-na
Na-na-na, na-na (Na, na-na)
I'm playing with sharp objects
Playing with them
(Na-na-na, na-na; playing with sharp objects)
Playing with them
(Na-na-na, na-na; playing, woo-ooh)
Na-na-na, na-na
I'm playing with sharp objects

What did SORN say about "Sharp Objects"?
Genius Answer

“Sharp Objects” is an electronic pop song with a very strong synth element. What’s special about this song is that it’s very different from things that I have done before in the past. For fans that have been a fan since I was in CLC, they will see a complete 180 change. The music video itself is a very different concept and I think many fans have already seen the teasers that have been released. I’m trying to bring back the hobgoblin days that I had with black lipstick and we tried to incorporate that into the music video as well.

How’s working with a new producer team to come up with this concept?
Genius Answer

When we first got the demo, I straight away fell in love with the whole concept and the producer, pretty much, when I got the demo, there wasn’t anything we wanted to change at all—because it’s a complete song, and the concept itself is very straightforward. When I was looking at the sounds, the instrumental, and everything that they used on the track, I knew right away what the producers wanted from this song. So, from my side, what I had to do was try to vocally design my new vocals so that it fits with the song. When you listen to the song, the lyrics are pretty strong and the song is pretty intense, and there is a whole story going on, so I had to create this character of this girl who’s going through this very intense moment in life where she’s showing affection to this person, and she knows that it’s really dangerous for her to fall in love with this person. “Sharp Objects” is a metaphor of how showing affection to someone can sometimes be very harmful to you, but this person doesn’t care about it. When I was in the recording studio, after getting the song and learning more about the lyrics and all of the instruments and the vibe that the producer had already arranged, I had to create this character to fit in with the whole thing.
