Tate has been holding this song back for quite some time now. She debuted this song on September 17, 2020, on her YouTube Live titled, singing some unreleased songs for u guys. Around ten minutes into the stream, she began to talk about a song called Falling Backwards, which, at the time, she didn’t know the song would become a fan favorite. On the live, she said:
Here’s one song, I don’t think I’m ever gonna release this, but I still like it. Um, but I just, a lot of my team doesn’t like it. So, or my parents, or anything, but I like it.

She has since released the tracklist for her upcoming EP ‘too young to be sad’ and Falling Backwards was not included.
Much later, she posted a TikTok video of her singing a studio version of the song. She also sang Falling Backwards on her TikTok Livestream on January 25, 2021.
In an interview for Complex Canada, Tate admitted her team is trying to release singles every month. So, there is still hope for this song to be released sometime in 2021.
