Teenage Mind Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Some girls get all done up, lose their face to repair
They attend every party, but it's taking them nowhere
Some think it's funny, say they don't even care
But on the inside, they wish they were there

[Pre-Chorus]
What have we come to now?
We all wanna be like the rest
Can't describe just how
But we're all a beautiful mess

[Chorus]
One moment, we're broken and then we're fine
"He called you back?," "Wait, wasn't he mine?"
One moment, we're broken and then we're fine
Lost in the puzzle of the teenage mind

[Verse 2]
Some boys make the trouble and think they're all "it"
Constantly in company or thrown to the ditch
And some are just there to have a good time
Ignoring every bit of drama and each little lie

[Pre-Chorus]
Yeah, what have we come to now?
We all wanna be like the rest
Can't describe just how
But we're all a beautiful mess
[Chorus]
One moment, we're broken and then we're fine
"He called you back?," "Wait, wasn't he mine?"
One moment, we're broken and then we're fine
Lost in the puzzle of the teenage mind

[Bridge]
What have we come to now?
Can't describe just how

[Outro]
One moment, we're broken and then we're fine
They said hello, but missed goodbye
We are all insane inside
And no one's gonna figure out the teenage mind

Genius Annotation

Tate has explained in a video that this song is about the pressure that is on teenagers nowadays. She sings about different stereotypes in this song to bring across the message that:

You are never going to be happy enough if you are always thinking about what the other people are doing.

Tate also wanted to sing about the capriciousness of a teenager’s life. For example, things that may seem to play a big role in your life now, will probably only be a small thing when you look back at it. Furthermore, teen’s moods change all the time:

Some days, I’ll be like, ‘I’m so happy, I love my life!’ And the next day I can be an absolute disaster. And I have no idea why.

Tate wanted to bring all of these aspects of the lives of adolescents together in this song, that is fittingly called ‘'Teenage Mind.’'
