Teased in The Summer I Turned Pretty season 2 trailer, “Back To December (Taylor’s Version)” was written as an apology to an ex-love, who was confirmed by the ex-himself, Taylor Lautner, to be about him. In the prologue to Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), Swift stated that some of the emotions felt on the record “were surprising to people.” When giving examples to that statement Swift said for this track;
