Me & You Together Song Lyrics
I can't remember when we met
Because she didn't have a top on (Top on)
I improvised a little bit
She said my references were spot on (Spot on)
"Can I take you for a drink?"
She said, "Oh God, I'll have to think
Because we're mates, it doesn't feel right" (Feel right)
And I said, "It's cool," and "I was messing," but it's true
Yeah, it's you, you're the one that makes me feel right
[Chorus]
I've been in love with her for ages
And I can't seem to get it right
I fell in love with her in stages
My whole life
[Verse 2]
I had a dream where we had kids
You would cook, I'd do the nappies (Nappies)
We went to Winter Wonderland
And it was shit, but we were happy (Happy)
I'm sorry that I'm kinda queer
It's not as weird as it appears
It's 'cause my body doesn't stop me (Stop me)
Oh, it's okay, lots of people think I'm gay
But we're friends, so it's cool, why would it not be? (Not be)
I've been in love with her for ages
And I can't seem to get it right
I fell in love with her in stages
My whole life
[Bridge]
And there's been no way for me to say
That I felt a certain way
In stages, oh
I think the story needs more pages, yes
[Outro]
I've been in love with her for ages
(For ages) And ages
I've been in love with her for ages
(For ages) And ages
I've been in love with her for ages
For ages and ages
I've been in love with her for ages
For ages and ages, yeah
I've been in love with you for ages
For ages and ages, yeah
I've been in love with you for ages
For ages
I've been in love with you for ages

We’ve gone full circle–this album is very like the early EPs: dreamy, hazy and quite broken and deconstructed. A lot of our hardcore fans emotionally relate to our EPs and see them as our first albums, so it’s nice that we’ve ended up back there. Our favourite music is music that’s kind of inherently beautiful. It’s not pretty but kind of fractured or a bit jangly or overly distorted. I think the whole record is like that, and this is a stark example of that idea.
Yes. The band debuted the track with a live performance in the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge on January 16, 2020:
When a fan noticed that a subtle reference to “Semi-Charmed Life” by Third Blind Eye and asked if it was intentional, Matty Healy responded:
I suppose a little bit. I mean, that song is just the one of those songs, isn’t it really? You know, like, it’s busted and like, it was the soundtrack to American Pie. I mean, to be honest with you, with that song, for me, it’s way more, like, vapor trail kind of ride. It’s way more like, kinda British, post-shoegaze pop. But American people really, really had a sort of similar, melodic cadence happen in all of that. I don’t know what it was. It wasn’t pop punk […], I don’t know. I’m not a snob, I love Goo Goo Dolls—I reference everything.
